Practice Description

The people who come to see me include teens and adults of all ages, from young adults leaving home through mature adults with stressful changes. Many want to improve their relationships, seek a new direction in life or just learn more about themselves. They may want guidance, suggestions or just someone with whom they can comfortably talk about hopes, dreams and fears.

I often work with people adjusting to:

  • transitions (family, career, or personal)
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • aloneness
  • grief/loss
  • health conditions
  • self esteem enhancement

Many want help before the problems become too difficult. Others want to prevent problems from arising at all. To this end, I counsel individuals, couples and families for:

  • divorce prevention
  • parental guidance
  • eating disorders
  • pre-parenting decisions
  • divorce adjustment
  • school/career decisions
  • relationship issues

My Approach

My work is collaborative, confidential and effective. This means that you and I work together to discover why problems exist and what can be changed so that you feel better.

Together we look at current life situations, personal strengths and strategies. Sometimes this is a simple matter of improving communication or negotiation skills, sometimes it means developing a deeper love for oneself. Sometimes it means just talking and feeling understood.

Adjunctive techniques such as EMDR, visualization, journaling, creative expression or internal parts dialogue may prove useful. It is always your right to decide which (if any) you want to try. My goal is to work with you in ways that you find useful and can feel good about.

Experience

My experience as a clinical social worker since 1979 includes teaching, consulting and supervising mental health professionals. Throughout my career, I have worked with hospices, children and parents in elementary, middle and high schools and for agencies dealing with substance abuse, adoptions, corporate EAP services and issues unique to women. Today, my services include family, couple and individual counseling and psychotherapy, as well as supervision, consultation and educational seminars for groups and individuals.
